Alcohol and Twitter are a pretty common combination in the United States, though they don’t exactly go hand in hand. University of Rochester researcher Nibil Hossain and peers recognized this phenomenon of drinking and tweeting and created a machine to spot tweets sent under the influence of alcohol with a proprietary algorithm. Hossain and company say their research could provide groundbreaking insight into America’s drinking problem.
