Kelly Cutrone/People’s Revolution pushed NYFW away from the staid and safe into edgier territory with its badass presentations for Francesca Liberatore and NAMILIA.

“I believe in Love and True Freedom – the freedom to change” – Francesca Liberatore

Francesca Liberatore’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection was inspired by “Elevation and Celebration of the Feminine.”

Francesca Liberatore graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2007 and immediately went to work for some of the world’s most celebrated design houses including Viktor & Rolf, Jean Paul Gaultier and Brioni. In 2009 Liberatore stepped out on her own and launched her namesake label. She also won Italy’s prestigious Next Generation competition, which earned her a runway show during Milan Fashion Week.

NAMILIA SS17 “You’re Just a Toy”

“You need coolin’, baby, I’m not foolin'”

Namilia’s SS17 Runway Manifesto (“Brought to you by the invincible all-girl Namilia cult”) includes the tenets “Reversing patriarchal society’s concept of female sexualization and objectification”” and “Take down Trump.”  The presentation, partially (and perfectly) set to Led Zep’s “Whole Lotta Love,” effectively did what its creators intended, which was to “challenge the common rules of decency” and re-interpret the rebellious and sexual codes of punks and goths.
