Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears
PTP
AVAILABLE FEBRUARY 10
By John-Paul Shiver
Every once and a while you are reminded how the blending…. or contrasting of rock and soul in a song can produce distinct infectious grooves. Serious and memorable riffs. In addition, the sly crafting of a peaking and descending guitar solo, amidst the full blare of a barking horn section, always nails the point home. “PTP”, is the lead song from the upcoming full-length album Backlash, out Feb 10th on INgrooves, by Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears.
The clip for “PTP”, a stylistically adventurous animated video, was directed and animated by Barcelona-based illustrator Roger Haus.
Lewis, who refers to the bands musical style as punked-up R&B, has said this 10-song record expands their sound by bringing gritty guitar tones and Stax-styled horn sections to intricate, danceable arrangements inspired by the likes of Nile Rodgers. Lewis, a Texas native, discovered his love for the blues soon after learning to play guitar in his late teens and names Lightnin’ Hopkins and Iggy Pop among his main inspirations.
