Google is joining the live-streaming craze with a new app designed to compete with Twitter’s Periscope and Facebook Live. The new service, known as YouTube Connect, will be part social network and part broadcasting platform, featuring chat, tagging capabilities, and a customized news feed in addition to live video. Google hopes YouTube’s brand power will combat Periscope’s ten million-strong user base and Facebook’s massive social reach.
