Ramona Gonzalez, who produces and performs under the moniker of Nite Jewel, will release her fourth studio album, Real High, on May 5th via her own Gloriette Records imprint. With the announcement of the new album, Nite Jewel also shares the video for new single “2 Good 2 Be True,” directed by LA-based artist Geneva Jacuzzi.
The track, a cauldron of pop affectations built upon a foundation of keyboard driven synth-funk, matches up and in some ways exceeds previous efforts. Gonzalez always brings this singular ability to bend, alter and reposition traditional genres into new and different pockets of energy. In the production hands of Gonzalez and Cole M.G.N, the track morphs and blurs the genre lines between soulful house and Minneapolis 80’s type funk.
The black and white video finds Gonzalez in several settings on a beach playing chess with a Fellini-esque character, intercut with her dancing. “Those dance sequences were a blast to film,” Jacuzzi says of making video. “Ramona, dancing her ASS OFF for hours…Christina [Acevedo] on camera, cracking up… and me, jumping and flailing around the room shouting out inspiration like… ‘Now we’re at the Prince Party! Erotic City! Dance Dance!!’”
Real High will feature contributions from long-time collaborators such as Dâm-Funk, Droop-E, and Julia Holter.
