Epic Games CTO Says VR Needs AI

Kim Libreri, CTO of Unreal Engine developer Epic Games, thinks virtual reality looks spectacular. Its next leap forward, he thinks, is an embrace of artificial intelligence. Speaking at San Francisco’s Game Developer Conference, Libreri said VR’s biggest liability was its believability factor, and that it’d have to introduce a human element — possibly on the scale of a live-streamed theater performance — to win mainstream acceptance. “We can make a really good-looking digital human, but when do we give it a brain?”
