Tinder, the immensely popular speed-dating app where users “swipe” right for ‘yes’ and left for ‘no’ on photos of singles in their area, began as a “Hot or Not?”-inspired game at the University of Arizona. Though not without its critics, who claim the app is responsible for a “dating apocalypse” and explosion in hookup culture, many say the app’s evolution over the years has allowed it to kickstart happy relationships — even marriages — for more than a few of its users. The times are indeed changing, it seems, as the dynamics of online dating are being turned on their head.
